Meet Mrs. Wesley

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island!” Walt Disney

I am so excited to continue in this wonderful role of helping children learn to read! I believe that reading opens so many doors for us. It’s important to remember that we were all beginners at one time, and that anything you want to learn takes practice.

Mrs. Wesley with her family.

I have worked in Allen Park for 34 years. I have taught Young Fives, kindergarten, first, second, and third grade. I’ve also taught Reading Recovery and worked as an Interventionist. This will be my fifth year as a literacy coach/reading specialist. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from U of M Dearborn in Elementary & Early Childhood Education, a Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan in Reading Intervention K-12, and Reading Recovery Certification from Oakland University. I have endorsements on my teaching certificate in Early Childhood Development, English and Language Arts 6-8, Social Studies 6-8, and Reading Specialist K-12 (BR). I continually attend numerous workshops on reading instruction and literacy coaching strategies.

I oversee the instructional aides that are funded through the Title I, 31a, and 35a grants. I coach the classroom teachers on instructional strategies, interventions, and data analysis. I serve as the parent contact for the students in the intervention programs, as well as any other parents that would like assistance with literacy questions.

I can be reached by calling the school at (313)827-1050 ext. 3306, emailing me at wesley@appublicschools.com, or sending a note with your student for a phone call home.
